In a new report, it has been revealed that Jeff Goldblum will return to his role as Dr. Ian Malcolm in the next film in the Jurassic Park film franchise. Goldblum will revisit the role in Jurassic World 2, its predecessor was the franchise re-boot featuring Chris Pratt that was released in 2015.
Goldblum first appeared as Malcolm in 1993’s Jurassic Park and its sequel The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Unlike the bevy of occupations in the films that entail paleontologists and geneticists, Malcolm is an insurance consultant who spends two films in the park only to survive the pre-historical reptilians that have caused so much mayhem and destruction in those films.
The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news that Goldblum was signed to bridge the gap between Steven Spielberg’s originals and 2015’s Jurassic World which raked in $1.67 million worldwide which surpassed the lofty box-office receipts of the three predecessors. The actor best-known for roles in sci0fi classics such as The Fly and Independence Day is slated to next appear in Disney and Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok. That film has a theatrical release date of November 3, 2017. Goldblum most recently appeared in the sequel to Independence Day, Resurgence and in a film with a few less explosions, The Grand Budapest Hotel.
The Hollywood Reporter lists the team making the decisions for Jurassic World 2, “Producers Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley once again join executive producers Steven Spielberg and Trevorrow in the next chapter of the franchise. Belén Atienza is also producing. Universal VP production Sara Scott is overseeing production on behalf of the studio.“ The planned release date for Jurassic World 2 is next summer, June 22, 2018.
The Nerd Stash gave Jurassic World four and a half stars out of five citing, “Jurassic World reinvigorates a franchise that was thought long dead. After the lackluster reception of the first two sequels to Jurassic Park, director Colin Trevarrow decides to ignore those films and only reference the first movie. There is much to love about Jurassic World despite its flaws.”
