Ever since the Minecraft 1.21 update, maces have been a welcomed addition to the game. They have a distinct weapon style, given the mace’s abilities, and it’s even deadlier with some key enchantments. It takes that fear of taking damage from falling and adding a reward in combat if your timing is on point. Making a mace in Minecraft isn’t difficult, but the parts are notably hard to come by.
How to Craft a Mace in Minecraft
First, let’s show you how to make a mace in Minecraft first, just in case you already have the ingredients. If not, I have a section on where to find the Heavy Cores and Breeze Rods. Using nothing but a crafting table or your inventory, take the Heavy Core and Breeze Rod and place them like so:
Maces don’t have any other variations, like an iron or diamond mace; what you see is what you get. And depending on which version of Minecraft you own, you’ll either deal 5 damage or 6 damage (Bedrock and Java edition, respectively).
Where to Find Heavy Core and Breeze Rods
So, as I’ve mentioned, you need a Heavy Core and a Breeze Rod to make maces in Minecraft—just one of each is enough. However, you may want to consider grabbing a couple if you’re hoping to test out the unique mace-only enchantments.
Breeze Rods and Heavy Cores are both found in Trial Chambers, which you can locate by using an explorer map. Out of the two, Breeze Rods are the easier material to farm because Trial Chambers feature Breezes as enemy mobs. Think of the Blazes in the Nether, but wind instead of fire, and you have an understanding of what Breezes are.
As for Heavy Cores, you can’t get them in a normal Trial Chamber. You have to first turn a Trial Chamber into an Ominous Trial. To do that, apply Bad Omen to yourself after you’ve found a trial spawner inside the Trial Chamber.
After completing the Ominous Trial and opening an Ominous Vault, there’s a chance you’ll be awarded a Heavy Core. Be sure to bring an Ominous Trial Key, which you’ll find during your trial. Easy peasy!
Best Enchants For Maces in Minecraft
Surprisingly, Minecraft Update 1.21 also features brand new enchantments that are unique to the mace, in that they can only be added to a mace:
- Breach: 15% of the damage you deal with maces will bypass damage reduction.
- Density: Increases the amount of damage you deal using the smash attack.
- Wind Burst: Similar to the Wind Charge, Wind Burst launches you in the air, where you then can follow up with a smash attack.
It’s important to note that Breach and Density cannot be enchanted on the same mace; it’s either one or the other. However, Wind Burst can be paired with either one and, in fact, one of the best enchantments for the mace is Breach and Wind Burst.
