Night Shyamalan’s latest film Split gave no indication that it had any ties to any of the director’s previews films whatsoever. When Bruce Willis’ character from Unbreakable showed up at the end references Mr. Glass, the antagonist from Unbreakable, fans were shocked.
Now, about four months after the psychological thrillers release, and 17 years after the release of Unbreakable, it was announced that Glass will be Shyamalan’s next film. In typical M. Night fashion the sequel to the 2000 superhero film was announced not via the usual methods, but over t(wist)witter.

While the title, Glass obviously points to Mr. Glass having a front and center role, the director is adamant that it will be a sequel to both, despite Willis’ very limited role in Split. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, he revealed The Beast was originally set to appear in Unbreakable.
“This was always part of the Unbreakable world. Kevin Wendle Crumb was a part of the original, original script for Unbreakable. I pulled him out because it just wasn’t balancing right. But a bunch of the scenes that are in this movie, I wrote 15 years ago. They were as is. Patricia opening the door. Hedwig’s first scene. Those were all written already. And it’s literally from the same moment that I created all the characters, all three of those characters.”
James McAvoy returns from Split as Kevin Wendell Crumb, bring with him all 23 personalities, along with Anya Taylor-Joy as Casey. Bruce Willis will reprise his role as David Dunn and Samuel L. Jackson will obviously return nearly two decades later to reprise his iconic role as Mr. Glass.
Shyamalan just couldn’t seem to keep his mouth shut, even after revealing that Glass even existed, he also revealed its release date. “Universal Pictures will release #Glass on January 18, 2019 all over the world. How’s that for not keeping a secret!”
