Motorcycles are cool, but those crotch rockets are too slow in Once Human and can leave you open to bitter pedestrian attacks. For a more eye-catching ride, you can thankfully opt for four-wheel fun with an actual car. As usual, getting a car, even in Once Human, is a bit of a process and can be expensive. So, I’ve prepared a guide to help you get your first car in Once Human. Don’t expect anything fancy, it’s second-hand pre-loved.
Unlock Memetics for the Car in Once Human
First things first, you need to unlock the required Memetics to help build cars and other vehicles. The first step to this is already part of the main questline and tasks. However, here’s a more laid-out process:
- Have at least 10 Memetic points/Ciphers and 1,000 Energy-Link.
- Open Memetics, Building tab, and unlock Garage if you already haven’t.
- Grab the Modifications Memetics.
- Grab the Four-Wheeler Memetics.
That’s it. The hard part is getting the Ciphers or Memetic points you need to unlock them. If you already have those Cihers, then you can start crafting your car. Build your Garage if you already haven’t. After this, you can build the car through the Garage.
You have two options here for four wheels:
- All-Terrain Vehicle
- Retro Coupe
Building a car is different in Once Human. You first need to have four basic parts, which you need to scavenge all over the other cars in the game world from scrap materials. For that matter, the All-Terrain Vehicle, while sturdier, is harder to build and harder to drive.
For the sake of brevity, we’re going to build the easier-to-drive Retro Coupe. Here’s how to craft your first car once you’ve met the requirements.
How to Craft the Retro Coupe
The Retro Coupe has four parts, and each part can then be crafted from materials you find all over the game world. Make sure to scrap or disassemble all the junk you get. For reference, here’s what you need for each Retro Coupe part:
Retro Coupe Part | Materials Needed |
Refined Frame | 20x Metal Scraps 30x Steel Ingots 60x Rubber |
Standard Engine | 20x Refined Parts 50x Metal Scraps 10x Steel Ingots 12 Electronic Parts |
Standard Tire | 40x Fireproof Plastic 50x Adhesive 5x Steel Ingots |
Rusty Oil Tank | 20x Rubber 8x Fireproof Plastic |
It’s a lot of steel, so sadly, you don’t want to attempt crafting a cart until you’ve unlocked the Iron Ore region north of the starting area (which is usually recommended for Level 20 players).
Most of the other parts are obtainable in the Greywater Camp surrounding area. The Retro Coupe is actually harder to drive than the motorcycle, but it’s faster and not as bulky as the All-Terrain Vehicle. A good starting point for players looking for faster and safer travel.
