Shannen Doherty found the strength to close an ugly chapter before her demise. The beloved actress, who lost her battle with cancer on Sunday, was in a contentious divorce with her estranged husband Kurt Iswarienko. Although the tumultuous battle amplified her health struggles, Doherty managed to deal the final blow to her ex.
Just a day before passing away, the BH90210 actress officially filed to end her marriage to Iswarienko after one year of battling it out. She signed paperwork declaring the dissolution of their marriage as “uncontested.” This means both parties finally agreed to finalize the divorce proceedings. Per US Weekly, Doherty also waved her right to spousal support, writing, “I knowingly give up forever any right to receive spousal or partner support.” The court documents show that Iswarienko also agreed to have his right to spousal support terminated.
Spousal support payment was a major bone of contention in the former couple’s divorce. The late actress was often vocal about her entitlement to spousal support from the photographer and how he tried to deny her. In a June filing, she alleged that Iswarienko desired to “prolong our divorce in hopes that I die before he is required to pay me.”

Although Doherty didn’t receive her desired spousal support, her loved ones are still pleading her case. A close friend, Tara Furiani, publicly bashed Iswarienko for maltreating the House on the Prairie alum during her cancer battle. Furiani admitted she was “sad” and “upset” about Doherty’s death because of the toll the divorce took on her health.
“Her pain and suffering in the months preceding it didn’t have to be so profound if her husband was just a decent human being. Could have just displayed a little humanity to his dying wife.”

Doherty and Iswarienko were an item for 11 years before she filed for divorce in April 2023. By then, she was already diagnosed with metastatic stage 4 cancer.
