Hellboy creator Mike Mignola recently revealed that the series would be getting a reboot, in the form of another film franchise. This reboot will not feature the talents of the original series, most notably director Guillermo del toro or star Ron Perlman.

Despite Del toro and Perlman’s constantly pining and praying for a chance at creating Hellboy 3, the creator decided to go in a different direction. While the original series had some great moments, and Perlman played a marvelous adaptation of our red horned hero, a remake seems to be the best direction for the franchise.

He was great in Stranger things but can David Harbour pull of Hellboy?

It’s already starting off strong, with the announcement that Stranger Things actor David Harbour, who played Hopper, will take over the mantle of Hellboy. Neil Marshall has been signed on as the film’s director, most notably known for his work on The Descent and Game of Thrones.

Most importantly, the upcoming remake will be rated R, something that certainly held back the previous adaptation considering Hellboy’s comic routes. Given the recent resurgence in rated R comic book adaptations like Deadpool and Logan, combined with the choice of director and lead, the film already reeks potential.

It’s all very exciting but while the first franchise’s second, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, was a huge disappointment, Marshall and Harbour still have an uphill battle to win over Guillermo del toro and Ron Perlman fans, as their will no doubt be some outraged they weren’t given another go.

Goodnight sweet prince, your performances as Hellboy will be missed, Mr. Perlman

There is no release date attached to the film yet, nor has there been any word of actual production dates or casting. For more information be sure to check back to the site for more updates, as well as all of your other Nerdy News!
