FF16 Producer Pleads With Modders Not To Be ‘Inappropriate’ as Tools Go Live

What sort of mods are you hoping for?

Something I’ve always enjoyed about the video game industry is the percentage of players who go out of their way to create mods for popular games. In my time, I’ve seen some absolutely diabolical mods like what can be found for Baldur’s Gate 3 (no, I best not embellish further, trust me) and hilarious mods like Thomas the Train in Choo Choo Charles. With the arrival of Final Fantasy 16 to PC, producer Naoki Yoshida only has one request about the inevitability of mods: nothing offensive or inappropriate.

Despite Yoshida’s request, he did not explain exactly what “offensive or inappropriate” means. While there are plenty of useful mods on Nexus Mods, various other mods are also available that are more, shall we say, sexual in nature. I’m leaning more toward the famous producer pleading that players don’t try to make or install anything that would mess with the artistic integrity of what the developer has created.

The Era of Mods Comes Soon to Final Fantasy 16

Nexus Mods is home to some of the most interesting works in gaming history. With Square Enix’s addition of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade to Steam in 2022, players got to work on various creations. One of these mods must have caught Yoshida’s eye because he briefly confesses that they’d love to make suggestions but don’t want it to come off as a request, per PC Gamer. Concerning the mods, he says:

“If we said ‘It’d be great if someone made xyz,’ it might come across as a request, so I’ll avoid mentioning any specifics here! The only thing I will say is that we definitely don’t want to say anything offensive or inappropriate, so please don’t make or install anything like that.”

Naoki Yoshida

It’s exciting to think about what creations will come from the launch of Final Fantasy 16 mods on PC. It’s even more exciting to consider that the legendary Naoki Yoshida will probably be scrolling through the mods and choosing favorites.
