Pocketpair Weighs in on Legal Proceedings with Nintendo Lawsuit: ‘We Apologize to Our Fans’

How bad will this lawsuit get?

The release of Palworld brought on a lot of criticism from fans of the Pokemon franchise. It doesn’t take a video game buff to tell that many of the Pals look incredibly similar in color scheme and design to Pokemon. However, it always seemed like a civil conversation between fans of either game. Now that Nintendo has officially begun suing Pocketpair, the developer of Palworld — specifically for patent infringement — the latter company has something to say.

In a Twitter post, Pocketpair expressed its concerns about the news and commented that it is currently unaware of the specific patents it is being accused of infringing on. Additionally, they discuss the team behind the game and the massive success that the game has gathered since its initial release.

Lawsuits From Nintendo New Look Good

Regarding the Lawsuit

Yesterday, a lawsuit was filed against our company for patent infringement.

We have received notice of this lawsuit and will begin the appropriate legal proceedings and investigations into the claims of patent infringement.

At this moment, we are unaware…

The response comes after it was officially announced that the gaming giant was proceeding with the lawsuit. Originally, it was only assumed that Nintendo would take action, considering that a week into Palworld’s Early Access release, the Big N said that it would “investigate and take appropriate measures to address any acts that infringe on intellectual property rights related to the Pokémon.” It’s become quite clear that no one messes with Nintendo.

“We apologize to our fans and supporters for any worry or discomfort that this news has caused.”

Despite the news, the response also states they will continue working on Palworld as normal. It’s uncertain if that will change as the legal proceedings wear on. Personally, it feels as though this was a long time coming, so I’m curious as to what sort of information Nintendo’s lawyers have that made them confident enough to chase a lawsuit. Nintendo’s big, but they don’t just slap a lawsuit on anything, right?
