This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

One staple of the MMO genre, and lately, of ARPGs, too, is the ability to customize your character repeatedly. While many modern games offer extensive character creators, players who want to try a new style after a few hours are always looking for ways to change their character’s appearance, and that applies to those playing New World: Aeternum, too. While this update brought many new things for players to try, did it bring a way to offer players a completely new look?

In short, you can’t change your appearance in New World: Aeternum at the time of writing. Even with the new customization options in the character creator and the ability to pick Archetypes, players will have to stick with the original customization they pick for their characters. This applies to names, too, since there are no options to change your name after creating a character.

Using the Skin Feature as an Alternative

One way to circumvent this is by using the game’s feature to change your armor’s skins. Once you get an item capable of using the transmog system, you can go to your inventory and pick the change skin option. It won’t alter your character’s look in terms of face, body type, hair, and so on, but you can change how their equipment looks. And, if you really don’t like their face or hair, you can equip a helmet to hide it. However, that’s a bit drastic.

Still, it is strange to see New World: Aeternum lacks the proper option to change a character’s appearance. Yet, we’re hopeful that the developers will eventually add such a system. With the game allowing you to respec for free and swap between many weapons, seeing a way to re-customize a character doesn’t sound too far-fetched. However, this is all speculation, and there isn’t any news about it. So, in the meantime, carefully look at your character before taking them out for a spin.
