Stardew Valley fans have eagerly been awaiting for it to be brought over to the Switch ever since it was announced. So far though, developer Chucklefish has been uncertain regarding the actual release date of the port. Original reports stated that the Farming Simulator would be releasing in summer, but we are nearing the midway point of August and still don’t have any news.

Don’t fret too much though, as Chucklefish is still hard at work moving Stardew Valley over to the Nintendo system. When twitter user Billy Shatford asked Stardew Shane – better known as Stardew Help – when to expect the game would arrive on Switch, he stated “Chucklefish expects it out this year. I know.”

Stardew Valley received a myriad of praise and acclaim upon its release and was compared to the classic Harvest Moon series. It isn’t surprising that it is though, as the developer stated the simulator was inspired by the classic series.

What is surprising is that Harvest Moon’s original creator, Yasuhiro Wada, praised the title stating that he was “very happy” with the game, as it showed him that Harvest Moon was not a forgotten series and continued on in spirit. The Harvest Moon series itself still continues to be published, just under the name of Story of Seasons.

But why is Stardew Valley such a success when the game that inspired it is still going? Well, fans of the series have been adamant that it has lost its mojo. Stardew Valley’s creator Eric Barone was among those critics, stating “the series had gotten progressively worse after Harvest Moon: Back to Nature.”

Barone developed Stardew Valley on his own for over four years. Midway through its development, Chucklefish approached him with an offer to publish the title, which allowed him more time to focus on completing the game.

The game quickly became one of Steam’s highest selling titles in its first few months following its release, eventually selling over a million copies. This success has allowed for not only the upcoming Switch port, but plans to expand the game to include co-op as well.
