If you’ve ever played Katamari Damacy, you understand how Exodus‘s story could snowball. Archetype Entertainment‘s sci-fi epic is more refined than the Prince’s giant ball of trash, of course, but it’s got as much momentum. The devs have teased players with intriguing glimpses into Exodus and its story of time-dilation, choice, and consequence for months now. At last players’ patience is being rewarded. In the newest Founders Q&A, the devs revealed that “a date does exist” for the release of the first gameplay trailer. Though they remained tightlipped about the specifics, they did drop some other juicy details.
Exodus’s Gameplay Trailer and Beyond
When asked about the first Exodus gameplay trailer, Archetype co-founder Chad Robertson confirmed that a release date exists. Unfortunately, the team isn’t ready to reveal “a specific date” to players yet. He went on to say that “things are coming together really nicely,” however. Though not as thrilling as a trailer, it’s at least comforting to know that the team is pleased by the game’s progress, even if we’re not privy to it yet. Given the scope and complexity of Exodus‘s time-bending story and mechanics, it would be easy for issues to arise, so taking more dev time behind the scenes is wise.
The mysterious C.C. Orlev (Matthew McConaughey) captured fan attention with his ominous monologue in the Mara Yama reveal trailer. In the new Q&A, co-founder James Ohlen spoke of Orlev’s parting words (“Yesterday, today, and tomorrow”), saying, “That’s a clue.” What it’s a clue about is less clear. From what’s revealed so far, Exodus feels like a universe brimming with paradoxes and puzzles. Orlev being a key to unraveling it feels on brand. As for that gameplay trailer, we’ll just have to wait until the stars are right, it seems.
