A recent job posting by Guerrilla Games might’ve hinted at the potential release of Horizon Online, the multiplayer spin-off to PlayStation’s robot-hunting franchise. It suggests that the live-service Horizon game could be ready to be released in 2025. Before this rumor emerged, there were already talks about utilizing the adventure series as one of the flagship games for the company’s live-service push. Still, even though Sony has yet to officially confirm the game’s existence, the hints are becoming harder to ignore.
Spotted on Guerilla Games’ job recruitment page, the studio is currently listing a Release QA Intern position. It notes that the position is needed to help ensure a project is ready for the ‘first half of 2025’ release. According to MP1st, the Release QA Intern job listing page also used to mention an ‘online project,’ which should indicate that Horizon Online is reaching its final testing phase.
However, as of writing, thereโs no trace of this ‘online project’ mentioned on the page. An archived version on Wayback Machine or archive.today is not available as well, and we cannot check the original details Guerrilla initially posted.
Rumors of a live-service Horizon have floated around for a while; sources close to Guerrilla noted the studioโs commitment to adapt it for online play. Previously, speaking with SpawnCast, Jason Schreier mentioned that Sony is spending a lot of manpower to release Horizon Online. As a consequence, this move might’ve cost the studio any plan for a third mainline game.
Sony’s current approach to live-service games has hit some roadblocks, however. Despite the massive marketing effort, taking up a slot in Amazon Prime’s Secret Level, Concord stumbled upon release. Meanwhile, Naughty Dog’s much-anticipated The Last of Us Online and Insomniac’s unnamed Spider-Man multiplayer game spin-offs were reportedly shelved. In the November investor call, Sony announced that six of 12 planned live-service games, originally set for release by March 2026, are delayed.
Whether Horizon Online is destined to be a blockbuster or another risky endeavor remains to be seen. As some fans already question if the Horizon series is really suited for a standalone online experience. Still, PlayStation shows no sign of completely quitting the live-service arena. Together with Haven Studios, it’s also currently working on Fairgame$, a PvPvE heist game.
