This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 hasn’t seen the kind of discussions that its predecessor enjoyed, thanks to the lack of DLC expansion that improves upon the framework. But recent datamines are giving fans hope, or at least something to wildly speculate about. While Capcom has remained tight-lipped about any post-launch plans besides performance patches, some intriguing breadcrumbs have emerged.

Data miners recently cracked open a Denuvo-free version of the game and found files that hint at possible yet-unseen content. These data labeled ‘Extra Content’ include a Boss Rush Mode and — wait for it — Multiplayer Mode: Tower of the New Moon.

That second one especially caught fans off guard, as multiplayer has never been a part of the series. Still, fans have expressed disappointment that the games put focus on Pawn partners and hoped that Dragon’s Dogma 2 might deliver multiplayer content via DLC. With that considered, could this be a sign of an ambitious expansion… or just remnants of cut content?

Speculation is running rampant, but as always, caution is warranted. Game files are known for containing abandoned ideas, placeholders, or things that are just leftover because they cause bugs otherwise. Bloodborne and various Souls games made by FromSoftware are notorious for leaving cut content that ties into the games’ lores. So does the PS2 classic Shadows of the Colossus with its infamous ‘Spider Colossus’ boss.

The discovery comes amidst a transitional phase for the franchise. Back in August 2024, Dragon’s Dogma creator Hideaki Itsuno announced he was leaving Capcom after decades of developing some of its most iconic games. Aside from the fantasy RPG, he also worked on Devil May Cry titles. Itsuno is now working at LightSpeed Studios, a Tencent subsidiary, for a secret project.

Still, the tantalizing mentions of a Tower of the New Moon and multiplayer could indicate that Capcom has big plans for the game. To add fuel to the fire, in a recent Capcom Survey, the company practically asked players if Dragon’s Dogma 2 ‘deserves’ a DLC expansion.

For now, fans should take the rumors with a grain of salt. After all, the only thing confirmed is that Dragon’s Dogma 2 DLC and expansion hypothesis continue to spark Arisens’ heart everywhere.
