Blizzard Entertainment had much success converting Warfcraft from RTS to MMORPG, so it’s also trying the same with Starcraft, turning it from an RTS to a shooter game. And now, it looks like the studio is a bit more confident in this prospect. Blizzard might have accidentally posted a leak out in the wild about the secret Starcraft shooter game via an ESRB rating listing.
The report came from some eagle-eyed folks in Gamerant where they spotted Blizzard Entertainment’s listing for an “online” platform Starcraft game. Under the rating, it has the “Teen” ESRB label and “Animated Blood and Gore” and “Strong Language” as its content descriptions.
Other than that, there’s no additional information. If you go to the Starcraft franchise page on ESRB and open the aforementioned Starcraft game, it will result in a 404 error. The page has practically been erased.
This listing isn’t to be confused with the ESRB listing for Starcraft 1 or the original STARCRAFT with Macintosh and Windows as its platforms and shows up at the bottom of the list. That one opens up to its own functioning page.
Could it Be the Starcraft Shooter?
There’s a chance that it could just be a website error. But at the moment, you can still see the “Starcraft” game up on the list.
There’s also a chance that it could be the rumored Starcraft shooter under incubation. Earlier in the year, Jason Schreier interviewed Blizzard Entertainment for his book. He was the one who revealed the budding Starcraft project.
It even has a former Far Cry developer at the helm. Recently, some job ad rumors have been swirling that Blizzard Entertainment is hiring more devs for the aforementioned Starcraft shooter.
In any case, the project could be in full swing now. However, it’s still too early to celebrate since these are just rumors at the moment. Also, Blizzard has canceled two Starcraft shooter games in the past. Starcraft: Ghost and Project Ares never made it out of development hell.
Perhaps the third time’s the charm for Blizzard if the hiring rumors and assumed Starcraft shooter leaks are anything to go by.
