Tesla CEO Elon Musk took a savage swipe at Jaguar’s redesign following a confusing car commercial ahead of a total rebrand with a new logo. This week, the car company Jaguar unveiled its latest commercial featuring a handful of models showcasing colorful, futuristic outfits, and what appears to be a reference to the LGBTQ community, and diversity in general. While this approach to a Jaguar car ad seemed like a means of acknowleging its evolution to the more “woke” and “futuristic” Electric Vehicles, many netizens were put off by the obvious lack of the most important part of any car commercial: an actual vehicle.
The Tata Motors-owned vehicle manufacturing company revealed its new logo on Tuesday, along with a prancing leaper cat design. It also included marketing slogans like “Copy nothing,” “delete ordinary,” “Live vivid” and “Break moulds,” notaby indicating Jaguar’s shift to its electrified future. The ad, unveiled ahead of Jaguar’s electric-only rebrand, featured actors of different race, ethnicity and gender shocasing their uniqueness against an animated background, with the various marketing taglines displayed at intervals.
Elon Musk Spurs Rivalry With Jaguar Via Savage Diss
Several internet users flooded X, formerly Twitter to voice their confusion, questoining the lack of a car imagery in an apparent car ad. Joining this confused hoard, Elon Musk, the renowned CEO of the competitor brand Tesla took a dig at the Jaguar car commercial, chiding,
“Do you sell cars?”
Jaguar took the initiative to respond to Elon Musk’s savage swipe, extending an invitation to the tech mogul to join them “for a cuppa” on December 2, a date many believe the British vehicle manufacturer set aside for the official unveiling of its electrified future. The tweet read,
“Yes. We’d love to show you. Join us for a cuppa in Miami on 2nd December? Warmest regards, Jaguar.”
Jaguar’s New Ad Campaign Stirs Online Criticism
Emboldened by Elon’s bashful remark, more netizens flocked X with statements questioning the Jaguar car commercial, and slamming the company’s apparent lack of “foresight” and creativity in their rebrand and logo change. Calls for the company to fire its marketing team soon flooded the post, with most claiming the “once great” brand just allowed the marketing team to sink them to the ground. One X user wrote,
“How dare you assume that they sell cars.”
Another chimed,
“I’ve never seen anything so ridiculous as Jaguar’s new logo which is replacing the iconic growling cat.”
Another fired,
“You may have cars to sell, but the ad is the opposite of selling cars.”
Another wrote,
“So much for the once great reputation. Looks like you need to reconsider your marketing strategy/leadership.”
A fifth added,
“No one wants to buy a car from you after that advertiseemnt. Woever signed off on that should be fired.”
“The Woke virus has affected them so much that they don’t understand sarcasm,” claimed another netizen, referencing Elon Musk’s description of his “son” as “killed by the woke mind virus” after becoming a transwoman. The tech mogul has faced criticism over the years for his alleged aversion to the LGBTQ community, with most citing his “promotion” of seemingly transphobic statement on his X platform.
However, the most glaring sign of his dislike for the more fluid gender expression prevalent in “the woke era” is seen in his rift with his transdaughter Vivian Wilson. The 20-year-old has openly accused her father of treating her cruelly as a child, also describing him as “transphobic” and “a serial adulterer.” While the billionaire has not openly criticized the LGBTQ community or declared himself transphobic, he unapologetically condemns movements geared towards promoting “woke” Ideals. That perhaps explains the reason behind Elon Musk’s savage dig at Jaguar’s latest car commercial.
