One of the best parts about watchingย Game of Thronesย every week is flocking to the internet afterward to see the latest fan theories for the week. And this week was no different. In this week’s episode, “Beyond the Wall“, theories were flying about Jon Snow and LongClaw. After Jon plunges into the frozen lake during the battle with the White Walkers, the shot freezes on LongClaw sitting beside the open hole. Fans swore they saw the wolf’s head on the hilt of Jon’s sword blink as Jon Snow finally breaks the surface. Trust me, if you weren’t looking, you would totally miss it.
So, what could this blink supposedly mean? Did Commander Mormont do something supernatural with the blade before giving it to Jon? Some have even speculated that Bran was keeping an eye on the battle through the wolf’s head. They have already hinted to the fact that Jon might have warging abilities through his connection with Ghost, but some believe that the blinking wolf is further proof of this connection. The Lord of Light himself may have been attempting to reach out to Jon Snow… If you’re asking for my opinion, I think you’re just seeing Jon’s reflection in the glass eyes of LongClaw.

However, the director behind the latest episode of Gameย of Thrones, Alan Taylor, was quick to put the rumors to rest. In fact, when asked about it in a recent interview, he had no idea what fans were even talking about:
That is so funny, somebody else mentioned that to me and I haven’t got a clue what they’re talking about. So either this sword is magic and it’s doing stuff on its own or something happened. I’m going to have to go back and watch that moment close up and in slow motion to see what’s going on there. I can say that there was no intention for that to be the case.
