Image Comics has announced that everyone’s favorite 12-year-old Homeless Ninja Heroine will be returning to comics in Street Angel: Superhero for a Day. Jesse “Street Angel” Sanchez has faced a number of different obstacles since she was introduced to comic readers in 2004 and is always known for being the girl who saves the day.

This time around though, The Greatest Homeless Skateboarder and her friends stumble upon a powerful alien artifact. Questions arise as to what powers the device may hold. Will it get in the way of the group’s middle school friendship? Or is it a gift from above that Sanchez can pawn for a hot dog?

Street Angel: Superhero for a Day

The creators of Street Angel: Superhero for a Day, Eisner Award-winner Jim Rugg (The PLAIN Janes, Afrodisiac), Brian Maruca (Afrodisiac), talked about how the comic compares to others in the superhero genre in a press release.

“Although Street Angel is the toughest superhero ever, her stories don’t look like traditional superhero comics,” said Rugg. In Street Angel: Superhero for a Day, we finally see Jesse with Angel City’s other champions—and we see how she responds when her role in her circle of friends is threatened. It’s an exciting, new take on the superhero genre, guaranteed to shake up the status quo like Watchmen and Dark Knight did generations ago.”

Since her introduction in 2004, the crime fighter has faced ninjas, pirates, and hunger with skill and help from her friends. The comic tends to focus on satire, making fun of the tropes known to superhero comics, like those that make up the Golden Age era, with its ridiculous dialog, unexplained characters, and flashy effects.

Street Angel: Superhero for a Day will arrive in comic book stores Wednesday, October 25th, and bookstores Tuesday, October 31st. The final order cutoff deadline for comics retailers is Monday, September 4th. Street Angel: Superhero for a Day is already available for pre-order via Amazon, Barnes & Noble, IndieBound, and Indigo.
