Ever afraid that youโre going to step out of your house with no clue where to find a good store, nice restaurant, or even just when you should stop and praise the sun? Now, thanks to the Soapstone App (available here for both Android and iPhone devices), you can do just that.
The Soapstone app has come out of beta, but the team is still hard at work implementing new features and asking for community help through their subreddit page. The orange, glowing soapstone messages should be familiar to anyone who has played a Dark Souls game. Using the familiar โphrase-buildingโ options (meaning you choose from preselected words instead of typing a custom message; think magnetic poetry) of the Dark Souls series, users can load the app on their phones and either leave a new message by using their phoneโs GPS, or view other messages within a close enough distance. This message will then be visible to other users of the app, who in turn can rate messages up so that people can pay more attention to the more popular Soapstone messages.
Although the app is out of beta and available for download, the creators are still looking to add new features. According to their subreddit page, they are looking to add:
Augmented Reality – Getting to view the message directly by looking through your phoneโs camera
Different color soapstone messages that indicate different content (such as a picture or video of the location)
Achievements
Real Time Language Translation
There are not many messages out there in Soapstone right now as it was just released, so go ahead and inform your fellow Undead about good places to eat, where thereโs danger, and, of course, when an illusory wall is ahead. Praise the Sun!
