The relationship between Prince William and his brother Harry has been strained for some time now. Harry’s decision to leave the family and move to the United States with his wife Meghan Markle hurt William. However, it seems like Prince William is aiming to “annoy” Harry during his latest meet-up with his brother’s “arch enemy” Donald Trump.
Prince William & Donald Trump Meet for 40 Minutes in Paris
Prince William and President-elect Donald Trump ran into each other in Paris on Saturday. They were both attending the ceremonial reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral, which has been closed since a devastating fire in 2019. William was standing in for King Charles who is undergoing cancer treatment.
Kensington Palace provided some details about the 40-minute meeting between Trump and William. Evidently, they spoke about various global issues, but they mainly focused on the importance of the relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom.
Royal expert Ingrid Seward said that Prince Harry, William’s brother, likely would not have come up during their conversation. That would not stop William from having feelings about his brother’s relocation to the U.S. and his recent problems with his visa.
In fact, it’s possible that Prince William’s chat with Donald Trump might have been a bit of a dig at his younger brother. Seward told GB News, “I think it might have given William a bit of a kick to know that he was annoying his brother by sitting with his arch enemy…”
Prince Harry is Under the Microscope
Trump is known to dislike Harry, who relocated to the U.S. in 2020. The president previously told the Daily Express US that the betrayal Harry showed the Queen was “unforgivable.” Trump continued, “He would be on his own if it was down to me.”
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams also spoke with GB News, stating that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would probably be “a little bit nervous” about his visa situation following Trump’s reunion with Prince William in Paris.
Prince Harry has been in hot water after admitting to illegal drug use in his memoir Spare. In the book, Harry wrote, “They didn’t simply allow me to escape reality for a while, they let me redefine reality. Under the influence of these substances I was able to let go of rigid preconcerts, to see that there was another world beyond my heavily filtered senses, a world that was equally real and doubly beautiful—a world with no red mist, no reason for red mist. There was only truth.”
The Heritage Foundation pushed to make it publicly known whether or not the prince disclosed his past drug use on his visa application. Biden Administration lawyers stated that his visa paperwork should remain private.
Prince William meeting up with Donald Trump may have made Harry feel a little uncomfortable, considering their history. “I think the whole Royal Family are very vital in the special relationship the government has with the Trump administration, because he loves them,” Seward stated. We’ll see if their meeting has any impact on Harry in the near future, though it likely won’t.
