During Tim Cook’s presentation at the Apple Special Event, some new facts were revealed about the Apple Watch. Â The Apple Watch has supplanted Rolex as the #1 watch in the world. Â Sounds good but there was less certainty on what criteria was used to judge that claim. Â More verifiable though was the news that sales of the Apple Watch grew 50% year over year since the release of the Apple Watch Series 2. All this meant that there was little surprise that Apple Watch Series 3 would be in the works and that it would have some new bells and whistles.
The biggest news for Apple Watch Series 3 has to be that it has cellular functionality. In short, it can act as a standalone device meaning that it does not have to be paired to an iPhone.  For just the watch users can make phone calls, send texts and stream music directly from the watch. Siri will also be able to give directions, answer that nagging Who’s The Boss trivia question that has been driving you nuts or to set an alarm to wake you from an afternoon siesta.

The Apple Watch Series 3 is also being touted as the ultimate sports watch by Apple. It’s GSP and altimeter will let you know how far you have run or high you have climbed during your workout. It will stream music to your wireless Airpods to provide some motivating tunes and is completely waterproof to let you take it into the pool. This functionality all dovetails into a workout app to help users to reach their optimal fitness goals.
The Apple Watch Series 3 can also differentiate how you move and what it means for your fitness tracking. Â It tracks in three categories, Move, Exercise and Stand so that exertion level can be determined, unlike a traditional pedometer. It can also track heart rate, breathing, and provide coaching via certain apps. Â The Apple Watch Series 3 can be pre-ordered beginning September 15 and released September 22. It will start at $329 for the GPS model and $399 for the cellular and GPS model.
