One of the most interesting new features in Warframe 1999 is the ability to duke it out with other players in a PvPvE mode. It’s worth noting that this new mode is separate from the Conclave or the competitive PvP in Warframe and is part of the Warframe 1999 update, specifically within its region. Here’s what you need to know in order to fight other players in Warframe 1999‘s PvPvE mode.
How to Unlock Faceoff (PvPvE Mode)
The PvPvE mode is called Faceoff and it takes place inside the alternate 1999 Earth dimension of Höllvania.
To unlock it, you will need to do the following:
- Finish “The Hex” or the Warframe 1999 main quest.
This quest will take around 1-2 hours depending on how well you savor the new expansion content. Afterward, the Faceoff mode will be available to you. “The Hex,” however, also has its own prerequisite where you have to finish all the preceding main quests.
What is Faceoff?
Faceoff works by pitting two separate squads each consisting of four players. These squads will not be meeting each other on the same map, instead, the game will keep tabs on them with a scoring system.
Each squad will then be given three random objectives against the new Warframe 1999 factions, the Scaldra and the Techrot. Objectives and objective scores will then be shared by both teams though the first who finishes all three objectives will win.
So it’s more like a friendly sports game than a bloody deathmatch, though there’s still killing involved depending on the objective type. Speaking of which, these are the objectives for Faceoff.
Objective | Description |
---|---|
Exterminate | Destroy all the enemies in your path. Fill the gauge to 100% before the opposing team. |
Data Burn | Find a Scaldra data server. Deliver Gas Cans to the generator to burn critical information onto a CD for the Hex’s benefit. |
Techrot Scan | Keep your Techrot Scanner alive against all odds. Destroy jammers around the map to reduce the defense timer. If the scanner falls, the timer stops, and it must revive. |
Pirate Radio | Keep the voices of Pirate Radio on air as it floats on a balloon. Destroy jammers to speed up the Radio. If it falls, the timer stops, and the balloon must revive. |
Lockbox | Deliver five keys, randomly spawned on the map, to a delivery point. If a key isn’t delivered within 15 seconds, it explodes, forcing the Squad to find another. |
Assassination | Follow a Waypoint to locate high-value Techrot foes and bring them down to accomplish this objective. |
What About Toxicity, Disconnections, & Other Issues?
Thankfully, the Warframe community is one of the least toxic ones out there (based on my experience) and this PvPvE mode is less likely to foster toxicity so you don’t have to worry about it tearing the community apart. Faceoff won’t be a face-to-face competition and the only form of griefing other players can do is be a deadweight to their own teams.
Digital Extremes has also anticipated the issue with disconnections and Host Migrations so to remedy that, a team member quitting mid-game will be replaced with a bot. It’s not clear how effective this bot will be, but rest assured, you’re not going to be competing in lopsided matches with other teams.
More than anything, the success of the Faceoff mode might mean further experimentation from the devs so there’s a chance you might see more of Faceoff in the future. Additionally, it’s worth noting that this mode is optional.
