Ubisoft has secretly launched an NFT game called Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E. The problem is that they didn’t bother to market the game, and barely anyone knows about its release. Then again, this isn’t the first time the company has released an NFT game secretly. Back in October, Ubisoft launched Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles on PC, which involves collectible figurines that players can form into squads of three. Well, that game has been received negatively by everyone, so it makes sense why Ubisoft doesn’t try to announce the release of Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E widely.
According to the official website, Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E is a retro arcade multiplayer arena shooter. The NFT game is based on Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix made by Netflix, which was based on Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. If you’re wondering how Rayman shows up in this NFT game, he’s actually a host of a deadly reality TV show. The Niji 6 is looking for some new “defenders of Eden’s freedom,” and somehow, they feel that hosting a dangerous tournament is the answer.
If you want to play Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E, you must install Ubisoft Connect Launcher and a valid Niji Warrior ID card. Basically, you need to purchase an NFT to even play the game. Note that the game is not available in a handful of countries, such as China, Russia, South Korea, Syria, and many more.
Some have played Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E and said it features a very basic top-down shooter gameplay. Considering how many hoops you have to jump through to even play this NFT game, most people won’t be interested. The FAQ claims that its main draw is the fact that the community can drive the narrative through “innovative governance.”
All players will need to obtain a Citizen ID Card, which I assume you can get by purchasing an NFT. Ubisoft calls it a “proof-of-citizenship,” which everyone needs if they want to vote and influence the game. As players play and participate in Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E (and perhaps spend money too), the more powerful their Citizen ID Card becomes. You can even sell it if you’re tired of playing the game. Frankly, the whole thing sounds like a pay-to-win game with extra steps.
