Nvidia Has Released a Driver Hotfix That Removes The Setting That Was Killing Your Performance

Patched up the leak

Nvidia has finally released an update for its graphics card drivers that fixes the newly introduced Nvidia App’s issues. For the uninitiated, Nvidia users used to have software called GeForce Experience that would manage some of the most used graphics card settings. While the more technical settings were relegated to the Nvidia Console.

This meant that all the options you had to play around with were separated into two different interfaces. Nvidia aimed to remedy this with the Nvidia App, which is replacing the GeForce Experience app completely, and will slowly continue to add all the features the Nvidia Console has.

But with the introduction of the new app, came a new performance penalty. Most users noticed that their games had reduced performance numbers by around 10-20%, depending on the game. The culprit of this issue was the Game Filters option that used AI to give games a visual makeover, mostly in terms of color grading.

Instead of fixing the issue, the latest hotfix simply disables the filters entirely, and Nvidia will likely come back to it at a later date to rectify the performance loss. Other than this change, the hotfix also removes the micro stutters people were seeing in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and improves the stability of select Ubisoft titles.

The driver version at the time of writing is 566.45, and if you’re facing any of the aforementioned issues, you should update it from the official Nvidia website here. If you don’t want to update it yet, the next best option is to find the filter setting and try disabling it manually.

Nvidia is getting ready to launch its 50XX series of cards in the coming weeks, presumably starting with the 5090, and then going down the line to the 5080, and so on, like with past iterations of its hardware.
