Once you reach chapter 3 in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you’ll start working toward joining one of the three factions in the game, but can you change it once you make your final choice? Well, it’s a bit complicated. But in short, no. However, the game lets you work for each faction before deciding. See, Chapter 3 is the longest in the game, and before you lock in your choice, you’ll have to do a lot of tasks for each faction and eventually pick one so you can progress through the next chapter. Once you do, though, there’s no turning back.

As soon as you reach chapter 3, Dynasty Warriors: Origins will tell you to think about which faction or hero you’ll follow because there eventually comes a moment when you can’t change. Fortunately, it’s a long road before that happens. When the third chapter starts, you’ll see a new area on your screen when exploring the map that shows your contribution to each faction. Each dot represents a battle you must participate in as part of one faction. Doing said battles will give you a contribution point and let you pick that faction for chapter 4. If you want to experience everything each faction has, here are a few tips:

  1. When starting chapter 3, do the necessary battles for each faction. One for Cao Cao, two for Liu Bei, and three for Sun Jian.
  2. Once you complete the above battles, you’ll have enough contribution points for every faction, meaning you can join either of the three.
  3. The subsequent battles are the most important ones. Once you finish the first missions, the next encounters will pit you against another faction, making one of them your enemy, thus removing the opportunity to gain more contribution points.
  4. However, if you did the first battles, you should be able to join them even after they declared you an enemy.

In short, do the first tasks for every faction, which have a lot of story beats to help you make your choice. After the initial missions, choose your favorite faction and do tasks for them until the game tells you it is time to progress to Chapter 4.

What Faction is the Best?

This is a subjective question, but we understand some people might ask this, especially since you can’t change factions in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, at least during the first playthrough. In truth, all factions are great and the only things that change are some of the battles, the playable characters, and some bond events. In our case, we picked Sun Jian and lost the chance to increase our bonds with some of Liu Bei’s allies, for example. So, always go with the faction you like the most. Also, there are different endings and a true ending that unlocks after meeting certain conditions, but we’re still working on that.

As we mentioned, there is no way to change factions during your first playthrough of Dynasty Warriors: Origins. However, that doesn’t mean you have to restart the game to pick a different one. After beating the game once, you can go back in time to pick a different route without starting a new playthrough. That means you can restart Chapter 3 and start working toward joining a different hero. This, of course, will unlock different characters, bond events, and even missions for you to tackle.
