This weekend, the stocks of Koei Tecmo rose, all thanks to the release of Dynasty Warriors: Origins. For the unaware, Origins is the new entry in the series that took a soft reboot approach. While it changed many things from its predecessors, it achieved fantastic review scores both from outlets and players. Furthermore, this weekend saw one of the game’s highest player counts, reaching 70,000 concurrent players on Steam. For a launch weekend, this is a huge success for the developers and publisher.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins Ranked First in Domestic Steam Sales

According to a recent report by Gamebiz, Dynasty Warriors: Origins also reached the top spot in domestic Steam sales over the weekend and the top 5 globally.

The company released Dynasty Warriors: Origins, which it positions as its flagship title, on January 16 on various platforms. It ranked first in the domestic Steam sales rankings and in the top 5 globally and maintained high rankings over the weekend.

Undoubtedly, Dynasty Warriors: Origins did great things for Koei Tecmo, its stocks, and, most importantly, the series as a whole. In the past, the Musou franchise had its ups and downs, with the ninth mainline installment not hitting the mark. Fortunately, Koei Tecmo and Omega Force’s new approach paid off.

Furthermore, Origins stands now as the game of the series with the best review scores. Right now, it sits at 81 on OpenCritic and 80 on Metacritic, both excellent scores for a game that caused a bit of skepticism with its new direction.

With this news, fans are even more excited about the future of the franchise. Previously, the team behind the game talked about what could come to Origins, mentioning things like a possible sequel and maybe even some DLC. Still, that’s up in the air, and neither Koei Tecmo nor Omega Force have confirmed anything regarding new content.

In the meantime, if you haven’t tried Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you should. It takes many of the aspects that made the series so iconic but polishes them in a way that is accessible for newcomers while keeping the challenge for veterans. Overall, it is a terrific Musou game and one that could propel the long-running franchise to new heights.
