Hollow Knight: Silksong has been in development for a long time, and with no news from Team Cherry, fans have become desperate. Some even craft various theories about when the game will be released. At one point, a fan even claimed that the game would come out during a Nintendo Direct in April. This theory was based on the fact that a Team Cherry member changed their profile picture to a cake, which recipe was made on April 2nd. Of course, it was soon proven to be false.

Although the theory sounds ludicrous to anyone outside the fandom, it just proves how desperate the fans are. One fan directly asked a member of Team Cherry, Matthew Griffin, about the status of Hollow Knight: Silksong. The man assured the fan that the project was still alive. “Yes the game is real, progressing, and will release,” Griffin wrote on X.

Although Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced back in 2019, Team Cherry has been very silent about their current project. The game appeared in a 2022 showcase that featured games set to be released within the next 12 months. This gave fans a lot of hope, but when 2023 arrived with no news about Hollow Knight: Silksong, the fandom was very disappointed.

Despite their fans’ desperation, Team Cherry kept their silence. It wasn’t until these cake shenanigans that one of them spoke up. After hearing Griffin’s words, fans were quite perplexed by the direct communication. However, this new ‘update’ also prompted some to voice their complaints.

One Redditor criticized Team Cherry’s approach, asking the team to pick a stance. “Either commit to regular updates or tell their fans that they’re not going to announce anything until they have something to announce,” the fan wrote. Another expressed their concern, wondering whether Hollow Knight: Silksong could meet fans’ expectations, which had ballooned after a long wait.

Many agreed that Team Cherry had announced the game too early. Although they understood that developing a game takes time, the fans still wished that the developer would be more proactive in communication.
