Meghan Markle earned another scathing nickname from former co-workers during her shortlived stint on Spotify, validating her “Duchess Difficult” reputation. The 43-year-old scored her $20 million deal with Spotify in December 2020, launching her ill-fated podcast Archetypes under the platform. The deal ended in 2023, with the Stockholm-based company citing Meghan and her husband Prince Harry’s failure to meet production benchmark. Nearly two years later, more insights about Meghan’s time with the company have made their way to the headlines, highlighting the duchess’ unpleasant persona.
Speaking to Fox News, Royal correspondent Neil Sean revealed exactly what Meghan Markle’s former Spotify co-workers thought about her. Neil claimed ex-staff members whom he got to speak to confirmed the duchess indeed had a difficult personality, even prompting them to brand her the secret nickname, “Eva.” Neil divulged,
“Ex-staff members told me they decided to christen her ‘Eva’ and this was used as warning signalto let people know that she was either arriving or on the warpath.”
Meghan Got Her Nick Name From A Famous Movie Character
The royal correspondent explained that the 1955 camp classic Queen Bee inspired the “Eva” nickname. The film, starring seasoned actress Joan Crawford as the lead character Eva Philips, follows a mean and manipulative socilite out to “destroy the lives of those around her. Meghan Markle’s Spotify coworkers reportedly felt the duchess, like the fictional Eva, “stung her victims to pieces,” hence the nickname. Regardless of this scathing perception of her, Neil noted that Meghan had no idea about the secret nickname throughout her time working with Spotify.
This followed a scathing cover story by Vanity Fair discussing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s lives in California five years after turning their backs on the royal life. The 8000-word piece, widely branded the Sussexes’ “take down” because of its scathing nature discussed Meghan Markle’s poor relationship with other celebrities, and how her reluctance to use curse words on Archetypes ultimately led to the downfall of her Spotify podcast. Additioanlly, the piece discussed the 43-year-old’s “bossy” and unpleasant attitude, which made life miserable for her co-workers and employees, some of whom ended up seeking therapy.
Meghan Roped Into Bullying Allegations Again
This isn’t the first time Meghan Markle would make headlines for the poor treatment of her employees. Last September, sources claimed the Suits alum had a knack for belittling people and ignoring advice, with her husband Prince Harry acting as her enbler. The source described Meghan as “terrible” while another branded her a “dictator in heels.” This domineering attitude, which “reduces grown men to tears” reportedly earned her the nickname “Duchess Difficult” from her US employees.
Although Prince Harry and Meghan Markle failed to address the “Duchess Difficult” claims, their employees at Archewell foundation were quick to refute it, insisting no one called her that within the organization. Insiders, who have worked closely with the couple also defended Harry and Meghan, singing praise of their good nature and kindness. Yet, the recurring incidents of high-profile resignations from the Sussexes’ staff lineup leaves many questions.
