Earlier in the week, physical copies of the complete Assassin’s Creed Shadows were leaked to the public, and some players have already given their rather positive (but spoiler-filled) criticisms. Ubisoft has then rushed to release a statement regarding the matter, with a pretty solid but restrictive solution for players who want to enjoy Assassin’s Creed Shadows the right way.
The statement itself was announced via X/Twitter by Assassin’s Creed‘s official account. In the post, Ubisoft itself reiterated that they will stick to the final March 20th release date for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. However, the studio also understands that spoilers are inevitable; the full game was leaked, after all.
While the event was unfortunate, Ubisoft’s solution on the matter is for players to avoid spoilers, which could practically translate to staying off the internet. This is to preserve player excitement for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which won’t be out for more than a month from now.
“Leaks are unfortunate and can diminish the excitement for players. We kindly ask you not to spoil the experience for others. Thank you to our community for already taking steps to protect everyone from spoilers.
Stay in the shadows, avoid the spoilers, and keep an on our channel for more official surprises in the coming weeks!” says the Ubisoft post.
Here’s the full statement:
Ubisoft also presses that the leaked copies do not represent the final build that will be released on March 20. Even those who played the leaked copies have claimed that they are old builds.
Quite a Setback for Ubisoft (Possible Spoilers)
Now, for those of you who are curious how the game held up– even as an old yet complete build, Assassin’s Creed Shadows received some significant praise. It’s worth noting that the praise came from one person only and doesn’t represent the general reception.
Some gamers were skeptical and even assumed that the leak or the people who played the leaks could’ve been marketing initiatives from Ubisoft in order to drum up more buzz for the game. The leaked copies were physical, after all, and many assumed that Ubisoft still authenticated them online, assuming they required an internet connection.
It’s not clear how the game got leaked or whether it was accidental or intentional. As of now, there are already stores selling leaked physical copies of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and some people are streaming the game. Of course, it goes without saying that you shouldn’t grab one and link it to your official account, lest you get banned.
