Silent Hill f Isn’t Scary at All, at Least Not on the PC with Its System Requirements

The f is Silent

After Silent Hill 2 Remake‘s success, it appears Konami is now more confident than ever with the franchise. The studio has revealed the next title in line for the long-standing horror game series, and it’s called Silent Hill f. It’s not clear what f means, but it definitely isn’t short for Fatal Frame. What Silent Hill f is, however, is a more accommodating experience, especially for PC gamers since its system requirements have been changed and unveiled recently.

Surprisingly, Konami appears to be taking a more reserved approach for Silent Hill f; here’s what you need to play the game on PC:

It appears hell has frozen over because this is a 2025 game that doesn’t ask for a 4000-series Nvidia GPU or even mandatory ray tracing or forced upscaling and frame-generation. Even gaming hardware from as far back as 2017 can handle the game, albeit with some big compromises.

The 4K settings requirements are rather low, which should be a pleasant change for many PC gamers. One thing to remember is that the game is still presumably far from release since there’s no confirmed release date yet. A lot of things can still change.

Not as Scary as Monster Hunter Wilds

In the past, Japanese-made video games have earned an accepted notoriety from the gaming community because their PC ports are often poorly optimized. Monster Hunter Wilds is no exception, and the game continues to be a demanding mess on the PC, and quite possibly one of the hardest games to run on PC this decade (though that didn’t hinder its success).

That’s why Silent Hill f‘s system requirements can be a breath of fresh air. Granted, one of the reasons why most Japanese games’ PC ports are poorly optimized is how most Japanese gamers play on consoles and PC gaming is pretty niche in Japan as opposed to the US.

More importantly, the system requirements have actually been lowered, because the CPU went from a 6-core to just a 4-core for the minimum specs.

Silent Hill 2 Remake Had Similar Requirements

It’s worth noting, however, is that Silent Hill 2 Remake almost had the same system requirements as Silent Hill f. So until we actually get to play some early demos to measure performance, it might be best not to celebrate too early, especially for low-spec PC gamers.

For those who can’t recall, it was somewhat hard to reach a steady 60 FPS on max settings for Silent Hill 2 Remake even for those who have the recommended specs (RTX 2080/RX 6800 XT). Silent Hill 2 Remake had its own optimization problems on the PC.

Silent Hill f will also presumably run on the same engine, which is Unreal Engine 5, so you would likely need to forget about ray tracing or global illumination features if you want smooth gameplay.
