Nintendo Switch 2 Promised VRR, But All Mentions Have Since Been Removed From the Official Website

The features are variable too

Nintendo has quietly removed all references to VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) support from several official Nintendo Switch 2 websites. The feature was initially highlighted during the consoleโ€™s reveal, where Nintendo announced that the new system would support 4K, 120 FPS, and VRR. However, as initially noted by Digital Foundry, mentions of VRR have now disappeared from the Canadian, US, and Japanese versions of the Nintendo Switch 2 website.

As of the latest checks, the European version of the website still includes information about VRR, but it is possible that Nintendo is in the process of updating all versions of the site, and the change will eventually go live on all regions. VRR, which allows supported TVs to display unconventional frame rates for a smoother experience, helps games with uncapped frame rates run more smoothly, especially during intense action sequences. This, if it actually ships with the Switch 2, would improve gameplay by a large margin in games that aren’t able to consistently hit 60 FPS, and has become quite important in the last few years.

At the time of writing, we can not be sure what this means for the future of the handheld console, but we’ve seen companies like Apple and Sony quietly removing marketing material without any announcements. The PlayStation 5 used to say it supported 8K at 120 FPS, but the 8K marketing slowly got phased out, and none of the boxes claim to support the feature anymore.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is still slated for release worldwide on June 5, with both a standalone version and a bundle that includes a download code for Mario Kart World. Nintendo is also set to hold a Mario Kart World Direct soon, where more details about the Switch 2โ€™s software will be shared. The Direct will last for 15 minutes, so probably won’t have any groundbreaking new reveals.
