Mortal Kombat 1 Died So The MK Legacy Can Live

Just when we thought we wouldn’t be hearing anything about Mortal Kombat games, a new Kollection is announced in Sony’s June 2025 State of Play event. The MK: Legacy Kollection is a love letter to diehard fans and anyone willing to visit the classic days of Mortal Kombat. You also get to play Ultimate MK3 online with your friends!

The big news comes right after the downfall of Mortal Kombat 1. The endgame for the latest Mortal Kombat entry happened to be so cold and unsettling as we were teased to get more out of this game later in 2025. However, Mortal Kombat 1 is gone, and Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is showcased right after.

The new MK: Legacy Kollection features a batch of old Mortal Kombat games, including the classics, and well, Deadly Alliance! Take a look at the official list of announced games here:

  • Mortal Kombat – 1992 (Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, Game Gear)
  • Mortal Kombat II – 1993 (Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, 32X)
  • Mortal Kombat 3 – 1995 (Arcade, SNES, Genesis)
  • Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 – 1995 (Arcade, SNES)
  • Mortal Kombat 4 – 1997 (Arcade)
  • Mortal Kombat Advance – 2001 (Game Boy Advance)
  • Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance – 2002 (Game Boy Advance)
  • Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition – 2003 (Game Boy Advance)

Now the thing that raises my eyebrow is the official announcement that says: “with more to come.” This isn’t the full list. But what could be coming next? Are there any future plans for bringing back the 3D Era MK games as well? We’ll have to wait and see.

The Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is being brought to us by the Digital Eclipse studio. Of course, Midway Games is no longer and this DE is now the specialist in restoring classic video games like Mortal Kombat 1, 2, and 3. But they’re not coming back with enhanced graphics only. There’ll be an online mode available for the classic MK titles! We never saw that koming in 2025.

Every game in the Legacy Kollection will have some quality-of-life changes that are not detailed, but one can guess where they’re going with this. The additions could be character guides, combo pins, and more hints for finding the easter eggs. The MK: Legacy Kollection will reach our collection this year in 2025, and more info will be shared as we get closer to the release.

Amir is an absolute Call of Duty nerd, preferring shooter games more than everything. However, he does like to do uppercuts in Mortal Kombat and feel the NOS going through the engines in Need For Speed games.
