The man responsible for some of the greatest themes in cinema history is composing for a galaxy far, far away yet again. Recently announced in an interview with Variety, John Williams will be composing a theme for the next Star Wars adventure: Solo: A Star Wars Story.
According to Williams, ‘The present plan is that I’m writing a theme for Han Solo, and John Powell is going to write the score, which he’ll do brilliantly,” It was announced this past summer that John Powell, famously known for his work on How to Train Your Dragon, Happy Feet, and the Bourne series, would be composing the rest of the film. And Williams could not be happier. “His assignment is something I’m very happy about,” Williams added.
Solo: A Star Wars Story will be the ninth Star Wars film the John Williams has worked on. The famous composer even won an Oscar in 1978 for his work on the first film, A New Hope. Williams has been nominated for an Oscar over 200 times and has claimed over 120 wins. He is also known for his work on Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, and many more.
Earlier this year, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (The Lego Movie) stepped down from working on the Han Solo project due to creative differences. Since then, Ron Howard has taken over directing the Star Wars spin-off. Howard wrote on Twitter, “I’m beyond grateful to add my voice to the Star Wars Universe after being a fan since 5/25/77.”
Solo: A Star Wars Story is set to release on May 25, 2018. The cast will include Alden Ehrenreich as the young Han Solo, Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, and Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian. With Ron Howard’s direction and John William’s composition, this Star Wars spin-off is shaping up to be a good one!
