There’s no doubt that Battlefield 6‘s killer reveal has even hyped fans of the other franchises, but right at the Beta, players have found something new to whine about. The all-complete Battlefield is now subject to review bombing because the developers aren’t too keen on allowing players to cheat. How wonderful is that?
One of the persistent challenges with crossplay is the presence of cheaters, particularly on PC. Titles like Call of Duty have spent years trying to combat the issue, but as long as anti-cheat solutions remain purely software-based, it’s an uphill battle. That’s where Battlefield is taking a firmer stance, by requiring Secure Boot to be enabled at the hardware level.
Secure Boot, a feature found in a PC’s BIOS settings, helps prevent malicious software from loading during startup. It’s an effective barrier against certain types of cheats, but enabling it isn’t exactly user-friendly. Toggling it on means navigating BIOS– a part of the system many players are reluctant to touch– and that’s sparked backlash. Some are calling the requirement “the dumbest decision ever.”
Still, the intent is clear: limit the tools available to cheaters before the game even launches. The enforcement has led to Battlefield 2042 being review-bombed on Steam, yet it doesn’t seem to be slowing momentum for the series. The Battlefield 6 beta already boasts over 26,000 concurrent players on Steam, and it hasn’t even officially started.

Since BF6 doesn’t have a user review tab yet, players are taking their complaints to 2042, which also requires Secure Boot to launch. There are a lot of PC crash reports, many claiming this setting has “killed” their PC. If one thing’s clear, your PC won’t just explode by doing this if you haven’t installed any suspicious apps on your Windows. And the Secure Boot? Oh, it’s here to stay.
Now, Battlefield 6 and EA might’ve been the first to announce this shift, but other games will join this party when they see it works. For instance, Black Ops 6 Season 5 and Warzone require active Secure Boot, something that’ll definitely stick for Black Ops 7 as well.
