When people have any kind of animal, you would expect that they would take care of them. Unfortunately, you can see a lot of abuse cases, especially with cats and dogs. It turns out that even fish can get abused. A traumatized Ohio woman shared in a video how her mother used to torture their fish. According to her, they had a fish tank where they kept several fish including two dory fish (meaning Blue Tangs). When these two would be mean to other fish in the tank, the mother would decide to punish them. Her punishment method can only be described as horrifying. She would take the fish out of the tank, walk outside, and throw them on the sidewalk. She would then let them flop around not caring at all.
The Ohio woman also shared how her mother would keep the fish like this for a few minutes before taking them back to the tank. What makes the situation even more traumatizing is that the girl was around seven or nine years old back then and she would be crying. She would beg her mother to let her take the fish back to the tank but she kept refusing. The mother didn’t even care that her daughter would cry and say “They are gonna die.” It turns out that the mother wasn’t just abusive with her fish but also with her daughter. This made her daughter say in the video after telling her story, “My mother like to torture living being. F**k you, mom.”
Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t treat fish well. They assume that they don’t feel pain like other animals and that it’s okay to take them out of water. It’s not okay. According to Science Alert, fish feel intense pain that “can last anywhere between 2 and 25 minutes” whenever they are taken out of water. It is basically torture.
People Reacting to the Traumatized Ohio Woman’s Story
People never expected what the Ohio woman was going to share. It’s shocking and upsetting too. A lot agreed that this could be described as abuse. “girl that’s not a punishment that’s just straight up abvse…,” one woman wrote. One person also said, “I thought you were going to say she put them in separate tanks or something.” You would think that any sane person would do this instead of choosing torture. It also turned out that the Ohio woman’s mother wasn’t the only one who was terrible to fish. Someone shared their own experience as they said, “My grandmother used to put her fish in time out in the freezer and then try to return them to the pet store explaining the supposed crimes they had committed. She very quickly was not allowed to have pets anymore.” What is wrong with people?
There was also one person who was quite upset as they stated that fish can’t learn from torture. “FISH LITERALLY DON’T HAVE THE CAPACITY TO LEARN FROM TORTURE, AS WITH MANY OTHER ANIMALS, WHAT ON GODS GREEN EARTH,” they wrote. That’s a valid reaction. Another person compared this abuse to abusing children as they said, “That‘s like putting your child under water for a few minutes and then bringing them back up. Attempted murder bruh.” The two do sound similar. Unfortunately, the fish weren’t the only ones abused. Several people asked the Ohio woman about her childhood because of her mother’s actions. She said that she was treated horribly as well. People like this deserve to face some kind of consequences. It’s not okay.
