It’s been 20 years since the Twilight fandom began. And now, for the anniversary of the book series, all the Twilight movies are hitting the big screen once again. While it’s bound to be a fangfest for many fans, some are less than thrilled about the re-release of the movies. As initial fan reactions roll in, it’s slated to be an interesting Halloween.
When the news hit social media, many fans lost their minds. “They knew I needed this fr,” one person commented. “Are we lying, pls say this is actually true, please don’t lie to me that would be my last straw,” another said. Thankfully, the news has been confirmed by Lionsgate and the official Twilight Instagram. However, whereas many fans were screaming their soulless, vamp love from the rooftops, others were a little more critical.
“Bruh, I literally scoured the internet just to be told this. C’MON TWILIGHT GIVE US SOMETHING,” one pleaded. “WHY TF WOULD THEY DO THIS? We just want a NEW movie,” another said. Understandably, with the release of Midnight Sun, many thought a new movie was on the way.
For some fans, seeing the movies in theaters is not a novelty worthy of a paycheck. “Why would I want to go to the movie theaters to watch ‘Twilight’ when I can just do it at home?” One person asked. “Sucks for you guys, I went to a 12-hour marathon,” another user said. Some even responded saying they’d prefer that to a five-day showing. “Jokes on them. I do it all day from my comfy couch,” one user remarked. “Love them, but I rewatch them all the time. Paying $20+ for all of them each, pass,” another said.
A few fans were still excited despite having to purchase separate tickets for each movie. “Requesting all of those days off work,” one user commented, committing to the ultimate fandom choice. Another commented on the nostalgia, saying, “It will definitely hit different–dark theater–snacks and popcorn. With Twilight besties!” Some fans are already thinking ahead and getting into the overall atmosphere of the saga. “I’m gonna go, but I’m definitely gonna ask the people around me, ‘Are we doing proper theater etiquette pre-pandemic, or are we saying the dialogue, laughing, screaming, etc.???'”
One thing is for sure: If there was ever a time to dust off your “Team Edward” or “Team Jacob” shirts, it’s now. Or, for the older millennials, perhaps “Team Carlisle” or “Team Charlie?”
