Unfortunately, there are a lot of children in schools who can’t afford food. So of course, it is a good thing when organizations try to help. It is completely wrong, though, when schools decide to give free food to Black kids only. This is what happened in Florida where a mother was left outraged after her kids’ racist school gave them free food just because they are Black. The mother detailed how her daughter told her that the school gave her and her brother black bags that had free food in them. They didn’t give the entire class either. They chose the two siblings and another Black kid so this was definitely targeted. Mind you, their mother feeds them well and they don’t lack food at all. She also said that she pays for school lunch.
What made the situation even worse was the fact that the organization that gave the Florida school free food is called “Feeding Empty Little Tummies.” So the school basically believed that the kids weren’t being fed well. The mother was also livid that they did this without her signing a permission for them to give her kids food. When she called the school, they told her there was no “malicious intent.” If that was the case then why did they only select Black kids while their school is predominantly White? All of this was enough to make the mother believe that the school was being racist. Her reasoning is valid.
In another video, the Florida mom was heading back to her kids’ school with the black food bags in her hand. Even the way they presented the food didn’t look good. The organization’s name was also another factor that made the mom more upset; I can understand that. Once she got inside the school, she headed to the front desk and pushed the food bags under the glass they had there. “My kids don’t have no f**king empty tummies. Don’t ever do that again,” she told them. Once she got outside, she made it clear that she wouldn’t mind it if the school kicked out her kids after this. They are definitely in the wrong here.
People Reacting to the Racist Florida School
Almost everyone believed that the Florida mom had every right to be upset. Several mothers imagined how they would have felt if this had happened to their kids, and they weren’t delighted. “I’d be livid,” one woman said. Another woman then said, “Hate to say this but I agree.” One person agreed that it was weird that the school would only give free food to Black kids. “Yeah cause that’s weird to give specific kids a bag of free food,” they wrote. A woman went as far as to say that this kind of school could even claim to CPS that the mother isn’t feeding her kids well. “Next thing you know the school call cps and say she asked them for food,” she wrote. Others were also shocked by the organization’s name as one person said, “not ‘empty little tummies’.” Someone else asked, “FEEDING LIL EMPTY TUMMIES OMGGGG?”
More comments believed that the Florida mom had every right to be upset by the organization’s name. It is just insane. One person also wrote how their own mother would have reacted, saying, “My mom would’ve been on the phone with her lawyer soo fast trying to figure out if she has a case.” Another person believed that the Florida mom should bring this over to the news channels. “School board immediately ! Channel 9 thoo!” they wrote. Someone else saw that someone else who actually needed it could have benefited from that food. “Nah I woulda been mad too. It’s kids at that school who genuinely have no food. Peach [the Florida mom’s name] takes care of her kids needs…that could’ve went to a family in genuine need,” they wrote. It was the right thing to call out the school and return the food.
