Skyrim Grandma of Ohio Quits Again After Finally Getting Tired of Skyrim, ‘I’m Not Having Fun With It Anymore’

So 15 years is the limit for Skyrim

Shirley Curry of Lebanon, Ohio, aka Skyrim Grandma, has been a mainstay of the Elder Scrolls gaming community for 15 years, mostly because of her creative and approachable ways of replaying Skyrim again and again. Also, it’s not often you see a senior citizen in her generation having fun with games. Sadly, Skyrim Grandma has quit in a rather adamant-sounding farewell video to Skyrim on her YouTube channel.

Curry, 89, broke the news on September 29th, citing that her primary reason for uploading and streaming Skyrim gameplay videos was to have conversations. According to Curry, her audience appears to be getting younger and less conversational, leaving only brief small talk such as “Hi” or other one-word greetings. On top of that, Curry is also “just bored again. So that’s why I’m just going to stop uploading anything with Skyrim.”

“I’m tired. I’m not having any fun with it anymore. Probably because of all the little kids on there. I think that’s about all I have to say. I hope my older viewers will stay with me and keep talking to me like you have been,” in one of her explanations. For the record, Curry is about to turn 90 years old and appears to be getting more tired or bored quickly these days.

It’s also worth noting that Curry has been playing and uploading Skyrim videos for 15 years now. And despite amassing 1.3 million subscribers, Curry is now ready to hang up the helmet. This isn’t exactly the first time Skyrim Grandma announced a “quit.” She made a similar statement in the same month last year due to her eye surgery and getting tired, but this time it might be for real, as it’s not primarily about health reasons.

Some fans blame the lack of a new Elder Scrolls

Curry’s farewell was heartbreaking enough that even a YouTube admin commented with “the end of an era ๐Ÿฅน looking forward to your next upload.” Most of Curry’s fans and viewers were thankfully supportive and aren’t intent on pressuring her to come back to Skyrim. Other people in other comment sections, however, were quickly reminded of how slow Bethesda is in a follow-up, particularly with The Elder Scrolls 6.

“Bethesda should be really f***ing ashamed we haven’t had a single entry to Elder Scrolls during those long 15-20+ years,” fumes a Reddit user, though for the record, Skyrim has only been around for 14 years. It’s just that some of Skyrim Grandma’s fans perhaps just wanted to see her play The Elder Scrolls 6 if and when it releases, “I canโ€™t wait to see you in Elder Scrolls 6. So excited for that!” hopes one fan.

Shirley Curry has actually been acknowledged by Bethesda, and as a tribute, they’re adding her officially as an NPC in The Elder Scrolls 6. However, that announcement was back in 2019. Much has happened since then, and new announcements about The Elder Scrolls 6 aren’t one of those happenings. Skyrim Grandma is ready to move on to something else, and we can only hope that Elder Scrolls 6 will arrive in time for that.
