A particular road user in Columbus, Ohio, decided that their words and social media alone were not enough to spread their political opinions, so they decided to be a literal moving announcement. A picture was posted on Reddit with the caption, “Noticed this on my way to work…”
It showed a dark-colored Honda Odyssey minivan with the entire back and windows covered in political rants about the killing of the popular late conservative, Charlie Kirk. The car owner was obviously a Trump supporter, as indicated by the numerous stickers of the President’s name and face. One was a picture of the right-side leader wearing a signature “Make America Great Again” facecap, while the smaller one was of the president wearing a suit, a “Trump 2024” campaign sticker, and several showing just his name. The car also had a sticker of the American flag in the shape of a heart.
Written boldly on the rear windshield of the car, the owner revealed their take on the murder of the MAGA supporter and made certain volatile remarks. “Charlie Kirk didn’t use hate speech; he used speech they hated,” the driver wrote. This same line was repeated on a window of the passenger seat.
“They could not debate him, so they decided to kill him instead. People shouldn’t be killed for having a different political opinion!!” the statement continued. Writing boldly in block letters as though to drive home their point, the driver stated, “A RECKONING IS UPON US.” Following closely was the declaration, “Bring back public hangings!”
This public display of the driver’s opinion was not received warmly by all netizens, and some did not mince words either. Someone quipped, “Oh, look! A vanifesto!” playing on the words van and manifesto. Another was amazed at the intensity of anger that would drive someone to write on their vehicle, writing ”Imagine being so angry that you write ‘a reckoning is upon us’ on your car with a [expletive] crayon”.
A user pointed out the obvious irony,“‘People shouldn’t be murdered for having a different political opinion’ and ‘Bring back public hangings’ don’t seem to jive.” Another added bluntly, “It’s like watching a child having a temper tantrum, because it is!” One Redditor wrote, “Wonder if he was on the receiving end, if his tune about public hangings would change, or would he remain steadfast in his convictions.”
Still highlighting the irony while expressing their confusion, a user stated, “Advocating for public hangings in the same breath as stating people shouldn’t be murdered for having a different political opinion is WILD. Because who are you wanting hung? And for what? Why public? For your perverse pleasure? I have questions.”
Other Redditors leaned into sarcasm. “Give this nutball LOTS of space on the freeway if you see him,” while another added, “For someone who supports public executions, they are mad about that guy getting publicly executed.”
Charlie Kirk’s killing continues to rub people the wrong way, and they are choosing colorful ways to express that grief.
