Trump and his administration are so desperate to convince both MAGA and Democratic supporters that there is some big, bad organization in America that they all have to fight against. To do that, they have been working non-stop to churn out endless propaganda, painting countless people as villains. Recently, they seem particularly fond of portraying Portland, Oregon as some kind of lawless city, claiming that Antifa has been rampaging through the city. As if to address this so-called crisis, Kristi Noem traveled to Portland to “witness the scene” herself. It is unclear what exactly she expected her presence to accomplish. If there really were an Antifa group wreaking havoc there, it is highly doubtful she could actually be of any help to the ICE officers. Regardless, new propaganda materials are now circulating on social media featuring Kristi Noem being followed around by a group of officers and bodyguards to protect her.
One particular video shows her standing on the rooftop of a tall building. Beside her are her bodyguards, and in the distance, you can clearly spot security personnel positioned nearby. You might wonder what kind of serious threats these heavily equipped officers are dealing with. Are they responding to major unrest or intense protests? Nothing like that at all.
As Kristi Noem looks down from the rooftop, the camera pans to reveal a group of peaceful protesters holding up signs. The most eye-catching of them all is someone in a bright yellow chicken suit, leaning casually against the fence. Clearly, a lighthearted figure and hardly the kind of serious threat one might expect.
Now, you might think it would have been wiser to keep this recording private, but apparently, the DHS had a different view. They uploaded the clip themselves, with a caption suggesting that Governor Kristi Noem courageously faced down unruly protesters on the roof of a ICE Portland facility.
Of course, the internet wasted no time mocking the entire thing. “I feel so embarrassed for her, but then I remember she is actually a horrible person, and I stop,” one user commented. Another joked, “Wow, she is so brave standing fully exposed without any armor in the middle of a war zone!”
Indeed, contrary to the endless right-wing propaganda claiming that Portland is burning and overrun by Antifa, the city appears calm and orderly. It doesn’t seem like there are any chaotic crowds or extreme agitators out there, just ordinary people and, amusingly, one man in a chicken suit. As one user sarcastically wrote, “Now Mr. Steven Tyler, as you can see, this is Armageddon we are dealing with here. The chicken man in a flag cape is clearly our greatest threat to society.”
