A new discussion is now building online after a Texas family that lost their teenage daughter last October decided to file a lawsuit against a beverage distributor, claiming that their energy drinks led to their child’s death. While the legal case focuses on alleged health risks linked to the product, a recent video from a TikTok commentator has shifted part of the conversation toward the parents being responsible.

That 17 year old girl who passed away from drinking Alani energy drinks everyday family is now suing Alani but what everyone needs to understand that it is 100% the parents fault that happened to their daughter

The case involves the death of 17-year-old Larissa Nicole Rodriguez, a high school student from Weslaco, Texas. According to previous reporting from NBC News, her family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit, claiming that the Alani Nu energy drinks she consumed almost daily contributed to an enlarged heart caused by high levels of caffeine. The lawsuit also argues that the product did not adequately warn consumers about potential cardiac risks.

The news outlet reported that the company behind the drink later stated in response that its products clearly disclose caffeine content and include warnings advising that they are not recommended for children or individuals sensitive to caffeine. The company also said it does not market its products to minors and follows federal labeling requirements.

TikToker Blames Parents

Amid the ongoing case, a TikTok user known as @chief_malo posted a video sharing his opinion on the situation. He argued that the responsibility should not fall on the company and that instead, “it is 100% the family’s fault.” He said that the parents who were aware that their child was consuming significant amounts of the drink should have set boundaries accordingly.

Drawing from his own upbringing, he explained that although he was exposed to coffee as a child, his parents did not allow him to drink it because of its caffeine content. He compared that to the case being discussed, saying the situation would be different if the teenager had been consuming the drinks without her parents’ knowledge.

What People Are Saying About the Texas Case

In the comments, some people agreed with the TikToker’s perspective, with one person writing, “The parents are the ones that purchased them for her and didn’t bother to pay attention to what they were allowing their child to obsess over.” Another added, “It’s their emotions choosing to sue in my opinion. There is no way the family can blame Alani.”

Others felt that parents generally should take greater responsibility for what their children consume. “Idk why parents are afraid to tell their kids NO!” one comment read. Someone else said, “Corporations are bad, but so are parents who don’t teach their kids how to grow up safely and with common sense.”

However, some people disagreed with his views and argued that companies should also be held accountable. “Yes but why does Alani try as hard as it can to market to teenage girls? Just because it’s not their direct fault doesn’t mean they aren’t predatory,” one netizen wrote. Another commented, “They still should sue and they should win. These corporations don’t understand nothing but money so….”

The Texas family is reportedly suing for over $1 million and is looking to include additional defendants.
