We’ve seen ICE and other Homeland Security agents get “creative” with the way they perform their arrests. However, sometimes they take it a bit too far and, even worse, target those who don’t even deserve to be detained in the first place. Today, someone spotted a large number of ICE officers waiting at an Uber Lyft parking lot in Illinois for drivers to arrive to detain them. It is yet another example of how these people are just targeting the wrong people and disrupting everyone’s day.
A Reddit user captured the footage with his camera as he was driving near O’Hare International Airport. In it, you can see a bunch of ICE agents raiding what seems to be an Uber/Lyft parking lot in Illinois. Although numerous officers are present at the scene, no arrests are occurring, at least not at the time this user captured the footage. However, as we all know, ICE uses these tactics to eventually wrongfully detain some people, which is what we’ve seen all around the country, especially in Chicago.
We can observe several vehicles leaving the scene, but it is unclear if all of them are ICE personnel or Uber/Lyft drivers. If they are the latter, then it is safe to assume that ICE didn’t get its claws on them and let them go free to their families. In any case, this is a shocking thing to see, as immigration officers are becoming more invasive and aggressive by the day, and this is just a clear example of that.
Many users saw this video and wondered why ICE was being more antagonistic than ever, with some asking if they had to perform a specific number of arrests to get paid.
“They have a quota?” Commented user StultusNosferatu, referring to the many detainees we’ve seen lately all around the city.
According to some context provided by other Redditors, they claim ICE gets paid depending on how many people they deport, which is why these officers are picking off easy targets during the day.
Many Redditors were shocked by this comment and shared their thoughts on the recent raids:
“Wow, I feel so much safer knowing that my tax dollars are going to arrest people with jobs.” Said user sourdoughcultist sarcastically.
In the end, it is sad to see how ICE is invading every single place in the city, to the point that nowhere is safe anymore. Hopefully, this will stop soon, so that workers and people can return to their everyday lives.
