Although there are times when you need to call out someone for their bad behavior, especially in public places, some people are simply not worth it and will only drag you down to their level. Recently, a woman (read: Karen) visiting a Mister Car Wash in Bakersfield confronted an elderly driver who allegedly almost hit her car and, instead, was met with racist slurs during their argument. The woman said she had been waiting her turn in the drive-through when the driver, an older woman wearing a red cap and sunglasses, tried to cut around her vehicle and nearly collided with it.
When the woman approached the driver to ask why she had attempted to squeeze past her vehicle, the latter insisted she had already paid for her wash and claimed she was only adjusting her position. The Black woman accused her of lying and warned that security footage would prove what really happened. Within seconds, the exchange turned ugly when the Karen began shouting racial slurs, using the N-word several times while insisting she was an “elderly woman” and threatening to sue. The Black woman asked her to stop saying those slurs and promised to post the footage on TikTok. In response, the other woman took out her phone and claimed she was recording as well.
A passerby who had watched the dispute later stepped forward and told the Black woman that the other driver had indeed tried to go around her car, thereby confirming her account. The bystander reassured her that she was in the right and told her it wasn’t worth the fight, calling the other woman “a Karen.” The woman thanked the bystander for intervening and said she planned to have the manager pull the security footage. “She didn’t hit my car, but she almost did,” she explained. “Of course, I’m gonna look like the aggressive one because I’m Black.” She eventually got back into her car, ending the confrontation.
