New Dragon Ball Game, Other Major 40th Anniversary Projects to Be Revealed in January 2026

Let’s hope it’s not another arena fighter

Bandai Namco and anime studio Toei Animation are setting the stage for a big Dragon Ball showcase early next year. A brand new game and other upcoming projects in the franchise will be revealed during Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri 2026, taking place on January 25, 2026, at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan. Besides a game announcement, this 40th anniversary event might tease new anime announcements, thanks to appearances from the franchise’s key members.

The highlight of the show will be the Genkida Stage+: New Game Super Announcement Stage! panel, scheduled for 11:00 JST — or 21:00 PDT on the 24th. Bandai Namco has teased this slot as the big reveal for the next Dragon Ball game. While no details have been shared, this suggests a completely new mainline console release instead of another DLC announcement.

The rest of the Genkidamatsuri event will also feature several other stages covering the franchise’s ongoing projects. Goku’s legendary voice actress, Masako Nozawa, and Akio Iyoku, executive producer of Dragon Ball Super: Broly and Super Hero, will headline Super Announcement panels. Meanwhile, famed composer Hironobu Kageyama will perform on a live stage at the tail end of the event.

Iyoku, who also leads Capsule Corporation Tokyo, has been overseeing all future Dragon Ball-related projects following the passing of Akira Toriyama. Their presence hints that these announcements possibly involve a new movie or anime series.

This reveal comes after Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO and Kakarot received new Daima characters in its latest updates. Dragon Ball FighterZ also joined the fun with a surprise Daima-themed update that added Super Saiyan 4 Goku to the roster.

The last two anime projects — Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie and Daima mini-series — have kept fans engaged. But they are still waiting for the anime adaptation of two Dragon Ball Super manga original arcs. The stories introduced a new galaxy-wide threat, Moro, and a fighter with a troubled past, Granolah. All eyes now turn to January 2026 to see if this long wait is finally about to end.
