For some reason, when it comes to poor people having necessary things like food, conservatives have something nasty to say. If it were them, it would be a different story. Now that SNAP benefits won’t be distributed in many states due to the shutdown, people are wondering how they’ll eat and how they’ll feed their families. A New York woman recently spoke up on TikTok about it, and you can hear the poison in her voice for poor people.
“EBT food stamps is not free food forever,” read the caption of Andrinique’s TikTok video. She goes on to talk about how food stamps are being cut for many people on November 1, as the government remains shut down in America. She says this is “allegedly” happening (she doesn’t even believe it, even though so many states have now verified this information). According to her, people are “so scared” and saying “Trump is taking away food from people right before the holidays.”
Andrinique then states EBT, Section 8, and other benefits are under a government assistance program “taxpayers who work” pay for. She says able-bodied workers are expecting things even though there’s no bank out there sending money to people who need EBT benefits.
So many people are out there struggling to keep up with their bills who work two or more jobs. But people like Andrinique think that they’re apparently not already working hard enough, despite the contrary. You’d have a hard time finding a mom and dad who aren’t both working.
Andrinique goes on to say food stamps were meant to be “temporary” until people get on their feet. She argues EBT was never meant to be “generational free food” that continues down the line in families. On top of that, she said she’s sick of hearing people complain about work hour requirements to keep benefits.
She doesn’t seem to grasp the fact that so many families have no daycare options. And if that isn’t an option, someone outside of the family should be caring for the children. That means the household has a much lower income, and at least one parent who needs to stay home for the kids. She doesn’t understand (or likely doesn’t care) that so many jobs out there aren’t actually paying workers a livable wage. Not to mention increasing rent prices, like those in New York.
“Where is your pride?” Andrinique asks those on food assistance. Unfortunately, so many other conservatives out there agree with her and don’t have a little humanity toward their fellow neighbor.
“We voted for this! We voted for Trump and we want people to stop abusing the system,” one boldly claimed. Despite what Speaker of the House Mike Johnson says, illegal immigrants aren’t a threat to healthcare.
“I’m 68 years old and I’m still working,” said another supporter. Buddy, that’s not a flex. These people should be sitting on a comfy chair watching their grandkids grow up, not straining their aging bodies trying to support themselves on their own.
