There are way too many Karens in this world. A Florida woman recorded the moment a doctor’s office employee tried to tow her car from the parking lot for no reason. What’s worse is that the woman was a patient at that same doctor’s office, having just left an appointment. It’s also not surprising that this was a white woman who tried to make the day of a black woman worse just because she wanted to.
The viral video was posted to yayalareina333’s account and starts off strong, with a white woman waving to try and get her attention while she sits in her parked car in Tampa, Florida. Apparently, while she was inside at her doctor’s appointment, the Karen thought that her car had been sitting in the parking lot for too long and needed to be towed. Well, of course, it’s sitting in the parking lot because the owner is inside at an appointment.
Even after being explained this, it seems as though the white woman didn’t care, trying to get defining information from the woman in the car to prove she really was a patient. Now, while this might have felt like an innocent question, it’s in fact a violation of what is known as HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. This act protects sensitive patient health information and should never be disclosed publicly like that.
Realistically, despite the woman wearing a uniform and nametag, she could have been any random person asking the driver of the car for her personal health information. Commentators were very quick to notice this particular bit of information, with one of the top comments simply saying, “Hippa violation! Sue them.”
It’s never made sense to me when people go out of their way to make situations difficult for others just because they don’t like what’s happening, especially in Florida. Realistically, it looks like the parking lot is filled with other cars that are likely there for the same thing, if not to shop at other nearby stores. Why didn’t the woman call the tow company on any of those particular cars?
While the video doesn’t show if there was a nearby tow sign that maybe the woman recording hadn’t seen, that still doesn’t justify the other woman’s actions. Another commentator also took note of this, commenting with, “The part that really gets me is that you could’ve just gotten some bad news and needed a moment to get yourself together.. She’s minding everyone’s business but her own!” Hopefully, she thinks twice before ever doing something like this again, if she’s still employed by that location.
