Strangers in your home are always a cause for concern, but for one woman and her family in New York City, it was an alarming experience. A group of men not only broke into her apartment, but they also rummaged around, because it turns out they were maintenance men; the problem was, the apartment owner didn’t even agree to or order a maintenance call, and they even invaded her home while she wasn’t wearing anything and asleep.
This close call happened to Beky Tidor, aka joliebeky, and her sister inside their New York City apartment early in November. Beky was merely sleeping while unclothed when suddenly, the “maintenance” callout woke her up. To her surprise, she found a group of men already walking around in her apartment, even though she had locked the door. Apparently, they broke the meal security bar on the door so they could get in for inspection. Naturally, this sent Beky and her sister into a panic.
In the video, you can see Beky questioning the group of men (at least three of them) as to what they were doing in her apartment. Apparently, she also confronted them while unclothed, which was why one of them was covering his eyes while talking to her, telling her they’re maintenance guys. One of the men said they didn’t know anyone was home and apologized, but for Beky, “that’s even worse,” considering they broke in.
“I had an insane experience today. Maintenance or whoever is doing inspections came into my apartment and broke the metal security bar on my door to get in… If they knocked and didn’t hear anything, they should have called or scheduled a proper time when I was available. Instead, they forced their way in. I’m completely in disbelief that something like this could happen, and I’ve already filed a police report and plan to press charges,” according to Beky.
Even Landlords Were Defending Beky
It appears Beky and her family are safe and didn’t incur anything violent or any injuries. However, it’s clear that the experience has left them traumatized and disrespected. After all, Beky had the right to privacy in her own home, and the maintenance men not only violated it but also likely caused damage to the door when they broke in.
Some people in the comment section were praising Beky for standing up to them even in her state of undress, “Walking up to them without clothes on is crazyyyyyyy☠️☠️☠️”, while another said, “That’s such a power move walking out [unclothed].” Still, other commenters were not about to let the maintenance guys off lightly, even urging Beky to sue them or even her sue her landlord.
“That’s definitely illegal 💕don’t let it slide 💯,” says a commenter. Some self-proclaimed landlords in the comment section gave Beky some advice, “Landlord here…24 hours notice unless an actual emergency. Sue. Immediately.” Apparently, Beky has a good cause for litigation, “This video is pure money, lawsuit lawsuit lawsuit,” urges another commenter. In any case, it appears Beky is already planning to sue, and her video has since gone viral with 10 million views.
