Police car chases often seem to be high-octane thrills, especially in pop culture, but it’s understandable why you wouldn’t want to be in one. For one man in New York, he certainly didn’t want to be a part of it, but had no choice, as it turned out, the taxi he took was illegal, and the police moved in to stop them. The taxi driver, however, had plenty of fight left in him and initially ran away from the police, with the passenger in tow.
This somewhat tense chase took place on West 20th Street & Surf Avenue, Brooklyn, New York, around mid-November. A man who was about to go to work took a green cab, only to be surprised after hearing police car sirens behind them, and this prompted him to capture the footage of the incident using his smartphone. It’s not clear how long the taxi driver was evading and running away with his passenger, as the video started mid-chase. You can hear the passenger saying, “Oh man, boss. That’s them behind us?” in a worried tone, with the taxi driver assuring him with, “You’re a friend of mine.” The twist is that the passenger also appears to have an outstanding warrant of his own, which was why he didn’t want any part of the trouble, “I ain’t closing my [expletive] window, I got a warrant. You’re getting me by police, man.”
Eventually, the taxi got boxed in by the New York TLC police (Taxi & Limousine Commission). When the police demanded the taxi driver‘s license and registration, the taxi driver replied with “Soon. I said soon!” while refusing to comply, which was something many commenters found hilariously (and intentionally) stubborn.

Thankfully, the passenger was able to get out as soon as the taxi stopped, and the police didn’t arrest him after he showed his identification. With that said, the taxi driver took this opportunity to speed away again while the police were distracted by the passenger. At the end, both the passenger and taxi driver got away.
“Both got warrants and both dipped 🤣” as pointed out by an Instagram commenter. Some were surprised that the authorities just let the passenger get away without further investigation, but others pointed out that New York TLC doesn’t have the same authority as NYPD, “They not really police. They taxi and limousine commission (police).”
It’s not clear yet whether the TLC police were able to catch the rogue taxi driver eventually, but it appears the passenger’s day didn’t get ruined, and was able to go to work without another incident. “LMFAOOOO welp everybody’s free it’s a good day 😂😂😂😂” laughs another commenter.
