There have been plenty of stories online of delivery services replacing customers’ orders without their approval, but the items are usually somewhat similar. But for one unfortunate Minnesota customer, the DoorDash driver decided that the best substitute for a Starbucks order was two bags of kitty litter. To be fair, what likely occurred was that either the DoorDash AI made a grave error in its predicted substitution or the driver simply delivered the order to the wrong address. That said, the customer shared their woes of the bizarre Starbucks replacement on Reddit’s r/mildlyinfuriating.

Ordered Starbucks for my Mom and got kitty litter instead. We don’t own a cat.

“We don’t own a cat,” the customer remarked in their post. “You don’t own a cat yet….” a user quipped in response. One commenter questioned how in the world such a mix-up was even possible: “Where does one go to order Starbucks and gets litter instead, serious question? Like how would this happen?” “It was a DoorDash order,” the customer remarked in response, likely with sarcasm. The top commenter joked that some other person out there is probably upset their “expensive kitty litter is now an iced caramel macchiato with two pumps of vanilla and easy ice.”

Starbucks can be pretty pricey, there’s no doubt. But the reason the user mentioned that it was expensive is that PrettyLitter’s quite a luxury pet product, costing $44 for two bags, plus the DoorDash delivery fee. Still, fancy cat litter means little when you don’t own a cat and didn’t receive the beverages you ordered. One thing’s for sure, though: this DoorDash driver probably won’t be getting their tip.

The original poster didn’t post any updates about their predicament, but hopefully, DoorDash gave them a refund for their order. Delivery services like DoorDash these days haven’t had the best reputation online due to all the horror stories people share. And receiving cat litter in place of coffee isn’t helping its cause at all.
