It seems like common sense that no business should place security cameras in bathrooms or fitting rooms, yet some still do. A recent incident at a Walmart in Michigan highlights this issue. A woman was shocked when her partner discovered a camera positioned above the women’s fitting rooms. In a video, he confirmed that the camera’s angle allowed a clear view inside, effectively stripping women of privacy. The woman said she contacted the store to report it, but it didn’t sound like they had any plans to take action.
Viewers quickly identified the location as the Walmart in Shelby Township, Michigan. In the video, the camera is clearly visible, positioned directly above the fitting rooms and angled downward, making it easy to film women inside. The woman who exposed the camera said the store refused to remove it, suggesting they were aware of its purpose and intended to keep it. If this were an innocent mistake, they likely would have clarified or corrected it. She also noted that local police showed little interest in the matter. The camera didn’t just put women at risk; children were also vulnerable. Whoever installed it should be held accountable.
People Reacting to the Michigan Woman’s Video
People were just as shocked as the Michigan woman because this entire situation is invasive and disgusting. Of course, many started mentioning how this was illegal, as one person said, “Yep that’s illegal.” One woman also said, “You need to say which store this is and where, they need to be held accountable.” Since the location is now known, people should avoid going there. Someone else believed that Walmart doing this is completely insane. “Walmart is so obsessed with making sure no one steals that they don’t even care to put a camera in the fitting room that is crazy,” they wrote. There are many ways to stop theft, but placing cameras like this shouldn’t be one of them.
Since the Michigan woman said that police didn’t care, people started encouraging her to inform the news. “Send this to every news station you can I bet they’ll care then,” one person wrote. This could possibly work. Another person focused on how this camera was filming children as well, as they said, “Not only women Children they are filming children. There needs to be an outrage and protest at that Walmart especially if they are refusing to take it down.” The video also reached locals and this made one woman share how she was just at that location. “Is this seriously Shelby Twp, MI? The one on 23 mile by 53 expressway?! I was literally there YESTERDAY TRYING ON CLOTHES and so was my elderly MOM! When was this taken?! I will call STPD today‼‼” she wrote. Police should definitely do something.
