Buying a Christmas tree is a cherished holiday tradition for many families. Plenty of people prefer a real tree over a plastic one, believing it’s the most festive way to celebrate the season. But one unlucky Florida family is rethinking that choice after their live tree turned into an unexpected nightmare.

After bringing it home, they quickly discovered it was crawling with dozens of creepy, unfamiliar bugs. In a video they shared online, the tree is shown lying on the ground with pieces of paper taped to it, reading “BUGS.” At first glance, it doesn’t seem too alarming until the camera zooms in.

One branch alone had more than ten bugs clinging to it, and that was just the beginning.

We loved picking out a tree every year until we found these bugs on Christmas Eve and had to throw out our tree!! Others said they have had praying mantis and spider infestations as well – these are aphids – harmless but gross!! Fake tree from here on out! #christmastree #foryoupage #christmas #gross #christmas

The Florida family then showed another branch, and that one had it worse. There were more than 20 bugs ther,e with different sizes too. The rest of the video then showed how the entire tree was filled with more bugs. It won’t be surprising if they were over 100. The family said that they plan to buy fake trees from now on. That’s definitely the best solution. At least the fake one would stay with them for years and wouldn’t have bugs.

People Reacting to the Florida Family’s Bad Luck

The Florida family’s tree was the first time many people saw something like this. This is why many of them were just as shocked. One woman even wrote, “ma’am those are not just bugs… those look like hundreds of tics!!!!” Someone else didn’t agree with the ticks claim as they said, “They’re aphids.” They might be right because the bugs did look like black bean aphid. Another person agreed with this and even declared that they weren’t harmful. “Yes there harmless can spray it with ortho home spray they don’t spread to the house,” they wrote. I still wouldn’t want to see them inside my house.

More people chimed in after seeing the Florida family’s buggy Christmas tree. Since the tree was already fully decorated, one viewer pointed out the most unsettling part: “More terrifying is that you made it through putting on lights and ornaments before noticing.” Odds are the family ended up tossing the ornaments out with the tree.

Not everyone reacted with horror, though some viewers tried to find humor in the situation. “They want to celebrate Christmas too… I see no problem,” one person joked. Others admitted they would’ve completely lost it if this had happened in their home.

“This would send me into psychosis,” one woman confessed. Honestly, after seeing the close-ups of those bugs, it’s hard to blame her.
